“The secret of the mountain is that the mountains simply exist, as I do myself: the mountains exist simply, which I do not. The mountains have no “meaning,” they are meaning; the mountains are. The sun is round. I ring with life, and the mountains ring, and when I can hear it, there is a ringing that we share. I understand all this, not in my mind but in my heart, knowing how meaningless it is to try to capture what cannot be expressed, knowing that mere words will remain when I read it all again, another day.”

“Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? what could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”

“I miss you, Dad. But I am so grateful to see your “life” live on through the next generations. Ben is a father in all the wonderful, compassionate ways you were. He takes care of us all. So generously. Too generously, really And he is such a softy with his kids! You would laugh. Just like you! Sneaking them treats and always concerned about their feelings. Jordan is your mini me (although not mini). He has your joy and sense of humour. He has endured all of life’s setbacks with the grace you modeled for him. He is such a good, good man. You would be so proud of him. And Ira, you never got to meet him, but you would adore him. He has your indiscriminate love for food. What other child, at one year of age, would love blue cheese and pickle juice! We will eat your favourite breakfast tomorrow morning, all together, thinking of you. I love you.” -Your daughter.
